Importing your own videos

Bring in ZIPs, camera-roll clips or files, work offline, and share collections with other coaches.

When you'd use this

  • Working with video when you're away from the Hub

  • Using the app offline

  • Pulling in outside video to compare against

  • Re-importing video you edited in other software

Three ways to import

  • ZIP collection (best for offline, multi-angle work): keeps everything, every camera angle, voiceovers and synced eo graphs, and opens exactly as it would on the Hub. The only way to get the full package offline.

  • Camera Roll: bring in as many videos as you like. Videos from the same collection stay in sync. The tradeoff: no eo graphs, and finding the right angles means scrolling through a lot of similar underwater footage.

  • Files: the same as Camera Roll, but from iCloud or local storage.

Heads up: videos from different sessions, or from a phone, won't be synced automatically.

Where to import from

  • Browse tab: tap the tray-with-a-down-arrow icon, top right. The usual starting point.

  • Inside a collection: the same icon sits in the top bar, next to Export. It's a shortcut so you don't have to go back to Browse, but what you import still opens as its own new collection.

  • Holding your iPad upright? The import button may fold into a menu at the top right.

Save imported video to the Hub

Imported video isn't saved to the Hub automatically. To keep it: ⋯ (top right) → Save as new collection. Then assign it to swimmers in Collection Info (the ⓘ icon) and use it like any other recording.

Heads up: save imported video to the Hub before you work on it. It's easy to forget, and there's a known issue: build an assembly in an imported ZIP before saving, then export a new ZIP, and the new ZIP loses its eo graph. The original ZIP is fine.

Tip: share and work offline with ZIPs

ZIP collections are the easiest way to share video with other coaches who have the SwimClips app. Create a shared iCloud folder on your iPad and invite people by email; any ZIP you save there, they can import and review as normal.

  • Sharing with other coaches who use the app

  • Working at home: save the collections you want as ZIPs at the pool, then open the shared folder on your iPad at home. No Hub needed.
